Pen Carmel Footpath
It has come to the attention of the Community Council that the Pen Carmel footpath has been closed, and there is no longer access from “Rhes Gefn” / Bryn Gorwel onto the mountain.
This path is not registered as a statutory route (see map below by Gwynedd Council which shows it as an "unregistered footpath") and therefore Gwynedd Council's Rights of Way Department cannot take action to compel the landowner to keep the path open.
However it is possible to apply to Gwynedd Council under the Countryside and Wildlife Act 1981 to add the route to the Statutory Map. Evidence of use of the path is required before submitting the application.
The views of residents are therefore being sought. Do you have strong feelings that the path should be kept open and the right of way protected? If you have a strong opinion that it should be closed? Have you walked the path? How often?
